A modern conservatory replacement in Benfleet, Essex

SEHBAC has become the UK’s ‘go to’ conservatory installer for a variety of reasons, satisfying the most awkward conservatory installation projects with ease and finesse. The following case study just goes to show that no matter how difficult an installation first appears, when it comes to quality and performance, our reputation precedes us in every aspect.

Lasting over 20 years, the existing glazed conservatory, decking, and connecting stairs had become dated and in desperate need of repair. The Hounson Family had always envisioned a more contemporary structure to enhance the rear of their home, so the time had come to finally put their ambitious plans into action. However, the logistics of this project were particularly challenging, so there were numerous complications to clear up first before going ahead with the installation – including re-evaluating the pricing, a piled foundation, over-head power cables preventing craning a machine in, and further site access issues. At one point it didn’t look like the job would be able to go ahead at all! But, as we always say, there is no job too awkward for the SEHBAC team.

Modern lean to conservatory with matching sliding patio doors

Looking to extend their existing conservatory to create a larger, warmer living space, to meet the project brief it was essential to create a new glazed extension space more in keeping with the property too. To get an idea of what they could achieve, a visit to our show centre in Alton Garden Centre in Rayleigh was in order. Due to the unusual height at the rear of the house, we also visited the property to talk through the different conservatory designs available to them that would work best.

Creating a bespoke conservatory design to suit their specific requirements, this included a 1500mm opening within the base area to allow access for extra storage below the base floor level. The Lean-To conservatory design was the best option, providing a clean, sleek, and contemporary ambience. A smooth two-pane sliding patio door and a four-pane patio door, with one side window, make the most of the far-reaching views this house was chosen for. Renowned for their exceptional strength and weather-proof qualities, they also provide the perfect link to the outside space. Furthermore, due to the conservatory’s unique height, privacy blinds were added to the inside of the glass to prevent the neighbours from peering in.

A hybrid conservatory roof provides the best of both worlds

Designed using the classic Ultraframe Livinroof, complete with an illuminating lighting pelmet on the inside, the best elements of both solid and glass conservatory roofing can be appreciated far into the future. Constructed from aluminium and urban grey panels, the all-important style factors the customer hoped for have been met and exceeded all expectations. Able to achieve some of the best U-values around, reduced solar penetration and increased heat retention will provide the ideal temperature to work, rest and play in all year round.

The final touches involve a new glass staircase up to the two-part patio area and a Juliet balcony to the front of the four part-patio, which will be taken care of by the client.
